Gynecologic Oncology DAP

The Gynecologic Oncology Diagnostic Assessment Program (DAP) is an important part of the Gynecologic Oncology Centre at Lakeridge Health.  The DAP is dedicated to diagnosing and treating gynecological cancers (cancers of the female reproductive system). This includes cancers of the:

  • Ovaries
  • Fallopian tubes
  • Lining of the abdomen (peritoneum)
  • Cervix
  • Uterus
  • Lining of the uterus (endometrium)
  • Vagina
  • Vulva

You may be referred to the DAP if your doctor suspects you have a gynecological cancer or you were already  diagnosed. The DAP offers you care that is high quality, timely and close to home.

A nurse navigator will work closely with you, your surgeon and healthcare team to coordinate your care through the diagnostic process. The nurse navigator will:

  • Schedule you for the tests and appointments you need. 
  • Give you the information you need to be ready for your tests and appointments.
  • Talk to you about the next steps in your care.  For some people this may include a treatment plan.
  • Answer any questions you have.
  • Refer you to additional team members such as social worker or dietitian
  • Link you to community resources you may need.

Some of the tests you may have through the DAP Program are:

Treatment for gynecologic cancers may include surgery, systemic therapy, and or radiation therapy.  These treatments are offered at Lakeridge Health through our surgical department and the Durham Regional Cancer Centre.
