Accessibility

Lakeridge Health is committed to providing exceptional and accessible service that respects the dignity and independence of everyone. People coming through the doors of Lakeridge Health can expect an equal opportunity to use our programs, services and facilities.

Some of our accessible features include amplified and teletypewriter (TTY) payphones, accessible elevators equipped with Braille buttons and audio tones, easy access doors, and ample designated parking spaces in all parking lots and garages.

To ensure patients receive the most accessible care, we offer the following services:

  • American Sign Language interpreters available. For patients visiting the hospital unexpectedly, interpreters can be requested upon arrival. We will work to have an interpreter on-site as soon as possible. For patients who know they will be in hospital, the Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) can help pre-arrange an ASL interpreter.  They can be reached at 1-866-518-0000 or TTY: 1-877-215-9530.  CHS email - interpreting@chs.ca, or for emergency - urgent@chs.ca.

  • Immediate over the phone interpretation in 180 languages is available.  To access this service please speak to your Health Care team.
  • Closed captioning available on patient televisions. This can be requested as part of our regular television rental process.
  • Portable TTY devices. TTY devices are available to patients renting telephone services at one of our hospital sites. To request a TTY device, please call 905-576-8711 ext. 32077. Please allow up to two business days for installation of the device.
  • Pocket talkers for patients who are deaf, deafened or hard-of-hearing, available by request through a member of your health care team.

We value your feedback on accessibility. If you have comments, questions or concerns you can contact us by email. You may also contact us through Patient Experience at 905-576-8711 ext. 34402 or at the following mailing address:
