How do I apply for a student placement?

If you are interested in a placement, please contact your academic institution. We will work with with the Placement Coordinator at your academic centre to understand more about your placement needs and to determine if we are able to accomodate your request. We encourage you to make your request early; your placement must be fully arranged at least 2 months prior to your intended placement start date. Please note that in order for you to be considered for a placement opportunity, there must be an academic affiliation between your instituition and Lakeridge Health. 

How do I apply for a Medical Trainee elective?

Those looking for an Undergraduate or Postgraduate elective must contact Medical Affairs, Medical Trainee Liason, to make arrangements. We cannot guarantee that all applicants will secure an elective.

Please provide the following:

  • date of elective
  • discipline
  • site Preference
  • current CV
  • objectives 

Upon elective approval, the Medical Trainee must provide a Letter of Good Standing from his/her Program Director (or delegate), including the following information:

  • student's full name
  • confirmation of student's good standing in their program
  • training level
  • duration of placement/elective
  • confirmation of training in Basic Safety, WHMIS, Worker Safety Awareness, Violence and Harassment in the Workplace, Infection Control and Hygiene
  • confirmation of up-to-date immunization
  • confirmation of approved respiratory fit-testing

All placements during October 1 to April 1 must provide confirmation of influenza vaccination.

Can I have the contact information of staff members who take observers?

Staff contact information cannot be shared or publicized. It is the responsibility of the observer to seek out a physician of interest- Medical Administration does not make the connection on behalf of the observer.

Is there a library for students?

Our hospital has an accessible library available for students in the LHEARN centre. For more information visit our Health Sciences Library page. 

Do I get a student rate for parking at the hospital?

Parking at Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering is $44.50/month plus $10.00 refundable deposit or $20/day and can be purchased at the security office by debit or credit only.

Parking at all other Lakeridge Health sites is $31/month and can be purchased at the standard parking office.

Students may park and obtain a parking stub, will bring this to the Parking Office for a student pass for the duration of the practicum.
