Adult Services

Pinewood Centre's addiction counsellors provide ongoing assessment, treatment planning, education, skills-based training, and counselling to adults who are struggling with their own substance use and/or concurrent mental health symptoms.

Assessment, Referral and Treatment Planning

Service begins with an intake which can be conducted over the phone or in person at the different community treatment offices. During the intake, an assessment appointment will be scheduled for the individual.  A comprehensive assessment consists of questionnaires and an interview to explore the effects of substance use on all areas of the client's life, highlighting client strengths and goals, as well as developing a collaborative treatment plan.  The treatment plan may include short-term individual psychotherapy, group services, and/or referrals to other treatment agencies (e.g. residential treatment).

Individual Case Management

All clients are provided with an individual case manager who is responsible for providing ongoing assessment, counselling, support, advocacy, linkage to community supports, and referral.

Group Services

A range of educational, skills-based and therapeutic group options are provided to clients based on client needs, their readiness for change and availability. Group services include, but are not limited to, the Pathways Program, Relapse Prevention, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Early Change Group.

Auricular Acupuncture is offered at all community treatment locations.  It is a nonverbal therapy that occurs in a group format and involves the insertion of five, very fine, sterile needles into specific points of each ear.  It is considered a complementary treatment and is most effective when used in combination with other therapies specific to substance use.

Mindfulness Meditation is the practice of paying attention, in a nonjudgmental way, to the present moment. Cultivating mindfulness helps the individual be present with whatever is happening, no matter what it is. This is the key to overcoming all types of suffering. The Mindfulness Meditation Group provides the opportunity to practice the skill of mindfulness and to discuss how mindfulness can be utilized to improve the quality of day to day living.

Services are covered by OHIP* and are confidential. *Please Note: The Back on Track Program is not covered by OHIP.
