Update on Integration

Posted on Friday April 21, 2017

As part of the Minister’s Order that directed our integration with the former Rouge Valley Ajax-Pickering hospital, we were asked to adopt a corporate name that reflects Durham Region.

After extensive research and polling, we’ve determined that, for the majority of people in every community in Durham, the name “Lakeridge Health” is already reflective of Durham. We also found that there is a strong attachment to the names of each of our five local hospitals. You can see the polling results. Our next steps will be to continue to focus on the Minister’s expectation that we will establish clear naming conventions that put the local community first and foremost in all of our hospital signage.

The Minister also directed us to adopt bylaws that reflect the integration and update our governance frameworks with due regard to regional representation, including consideration to expand our Board of Trustees by an additional two seats from West Durham.

To fulfill the Minister’s direction, we’ve completed our review of governance best practices and are creating the capacity for two additional seats on our Board. These seats will reflect a skills matrix that includes geography, gender, race and ethnic diversity and other factors as dictated by best practices. There are also a number of additional changes and governance best practices that we will be carrying out.

More information is available on our Website including the governance review report and work plan.
