Ontario Shores and Lakeridge Health: Cross-Appointment Announcement

Durham Region – Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) and Lakeridge Health are pleased to announce the cross appointment of Dr. Kevin Chopra.

Dr. Chopra, the current Medical Director of General Psychiatry at Ontario Shores, has recently been selected as the new Chief of Psychiatry and Medical Director, Mental Health and Addictions at Lakeridge Health for a five-year term.

Ontario Shores and Lakeridge Health are longstanding partners in the care of individuals living with mental health conditions and addictions. Under Dr. Chopra’s leadership, Ontario Shores and Lakeridge Health will have the opportunity to strengthen our partnership within Durham Region to advance health system integration, making access and services more seamless for those living with mental health conditions and addictions. This cross appointment will also help to advance the learnings and leading practices of both organizations to improve mental health and addictions care throughout Durham region.

Dr. Chopra has successfully implemented numerous strategies to enhance the delivery of mental health care services in Durham Region, including the development and implementation of care pathways, implementation of a stepped care model, and development of a telephone consultation model.

Prior to Ontario Shores, he served as a Psychiatrist in the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Division at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, for the Department of National Defense at CFB Toronto, and at the Parkdale Community Health Centre.

Dr. Chopra received his medical degree from Dalhousie University in 2000 and his PhD from the University of Toronto in 2013. He is an Assistant Professor, Psychiatry at both Queens University and the University of Toronto, and an Associate Clinical Professor, Psychiatry, Medical University of the Americas in Devens, Massachusetts.

In addition, Dr. Chopra has won numerous awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the International Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology and the CIHR/Wyeth Fellowship Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
