Service Update Regarding Obstetric Patients in Port Perry

Posted on Wednesday April 14, 2021

As the pandemic evolves, Lakeridge Health has surge capacity plans in place to ensure we have space to accommodate the increasing COVID-19 and acute care admissions we are seeing in our hospitals.

At this time, Lakeridge Health has made the very difficult decision to temporarily suspend routine obstetrics services at Port Perry Hospital’s New Life Centre. Pregnant patients under the care of Family Medicine at the Port Perry Hospital will be transferred to the care of Family Medicine at the Oshawa Hospital.

However, any pregnant patient in North Durham who needs emergency obstetric care will still be able to receive care at the Port Perry Hospital.

The Family Medicine Team at Port Perry Hospital are in the process of communicating with impacted patients to provide more information and answer any questions. They are also working with the Oshawa Hospital to ensure the necessary preparations are in place to care for these transferred patients.

Labour and delivery services continue to be available as per usual at the Ajax Pickering Hospital.

Lakeridge Health recognizes the disruption these temporary changes may cause patients and their families. We continue to evaluate the COVID-19 situation daily and make decisions accordingly. We hope to resume these services as soon as we are able to do so.
