Statement Regarding COVID-19 at Oshawa Hospital - April 2

Posted on Thursday April 02, 2020

As the community spread of COVID-19 continues in Durham Region, Lakeridge Health is prepared for a significant increase in admissions for people exposed to the virus.

Yesterday (April 1) afternoon Lakeridge Health in partnership with Durham Region Health Department (DRHD) confirmed an outbreak of COVID-19 on the OC7 inpatient unit at Oshawa Hospital.

Consistent with established protocols for managing outbreaks in institutions, the unit is temporarily closed to admissions.

The individuals who have tested positive have been appropriately isolated, are receiving care and being monitored by the DRHD.

Lakeridge Health’s Infection and Control and clinical teams are well trained and equipped to respond to communicable disease outbreaks like this and have taken all the appropriate measures to limit the risk of transmission and protect patient and staff safety.

Since January, Lakeridge Health has taken progressively stronger measures to ensure the safety of patients and our team as this pandemic has evolved.

Along with health care organizations across the province, we will continue to take all steps necessary to stem the spread of COVID-19 and protect our people and patients while in our hospitals.
