Community members provide input via live polling during telephone town hall

Durham Region – On Wednesday, November 28, Lakeridge Health connected with Durham Region households through a telephone town hall, part of the latest round of community consultations to gather information to inform the future of the hospital system in the region.

Moderated by Jerry Archer of KX96, the live telephone event drew about 2,000 participants and was focused on building a stronger acute health care system for the region. Lakeridge Health President and CEO Matthew Anderson and Chief of Staff Dr. Tony Stone offered updates about Lakeridge Health programs and services and took questions on topics such as emergency department wait times, services for seniors, and mental health and addictions.

Through polling questions, town hall participants provided valuable feedback about which initiatives Lakeridge Health should prioritize, how well health care services are coordinated, and Lakeridge Health’s strengths and areas for improvement. Responses will be posted on our Let's Talk page in the coming days, along with a consolidated list of questions and answers and an audio replay of the call.

The information builds on more than 5,000 points of feedback received from the public throughout 2018 as part of Lakeridge Health’s multi-year planning process. The multi-year plans will focus on strengthening the acute health care system for Durham Region and shaping the delivery of the health care services that the community needs the most, over the next 5 to 20 years.

“Understanding the needs of the community will help us be most effective at providing high-quality care and a great experience for the people we serve,” said Anderson. “The input we receive through town halls, surveys and other consultations helps determine which priorities are the most important as we plan for the future. We’re grateful to the people who take the time to share their perspectives with us.”

Members of the public are encouraged to complete a confidential online survey: English Survey and French Survey. The survey builds on the previous consultations Lakeridge Health undertook in the spring of this year, and is open until December 12.
