Innovative Service Will Expand Access to Local Health and Community Services

North Pickering, ON – On June 20, the Lakeridge Health community marked an important milestone for local health care in Durham Region with a ceremonial groundbreaking at the future site of the North Pickering Health and Wellness Centre (NPHWC).

Sharon Cochran, Lakeridge Health’s Board Chair and Matthew Anderson, Lakeridge Health President and CEO were joined by the Hon. Peter Bethlenfalvy, MPP for Pickering-Uxbridge and President of the Treasury Board Secretariat, Hon. Rod Phillips, MPP for Ajax, and Minister of Finance, Paul Dalla Lana, founder & CEO, NorthWest Healthcare Properties REIT (NorthWest), other dignitaries, and community members.

“We were excited to celebrate this milestone with our community and partners and thank the Ontario Government for its support for this innovative local health service,” said Sharon Cochran, Lakeridge Heath Board Chair. “As a one-stop health and medical centre for people here in the City of Pickering and throughout the broader community, this NPHWC will increase access to comprehensive health care close to home.

“This new service will be custom built to meet the health needs of this diverse and growing community,” said Matthew Anderson, Lakeridge Health President and CEO. “The NPHWC will empower and support people to achieve the best possible health and quality of life.”

“Our government is proud to be supporting this important initiative, which will help build a stronger, more inclusive community in Pickering-Uxbridge,” said MPP Bethlenfalvy. “Since day one, we have been focused on providing support to those who need it – in Durham Region, and across the province.”

“We are extremely excited and proud to be working with Lakeridge as partners in innovation on healthcare delivery and related facilities, said Paul Dalla Lana, founder & CEO, NorthWest Healthcare Properties REIT (NorthWest). “We believe the North Pickering Health and Wellness Centre in many ways creates a go-forward model for hospital based health service that provides a one-stop holistic centre of clinics, physicians and allied providers in a highly cost efficient model.”

The NPHWC was developed using an innovative partnership model. It will bring together hospital services, physicians’ offices, an urgent care centre and a range of medical and community-based services, under one roof.  Over the coming months, NorthWest will begin construction of the new facility.
