Lakeridge Health and Medical Associates of Port Perry Partner to Offer Extended Urgent Care Close to Home

Durham Region – Lakeridge Health and Medical Associates of Port Perry are joining to provide new services and access to more urgent care, which will allow those with complex health care needs to receive treatment closer to home.

“Access to safe, quality care for the North Durham community remains a priority as work continues to restore and reopen Port Perry Hospital,” said Matthew Anderson, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health. “We are fortunate to have the support of the Medical Associates of Port Perry and their team of urgent care specialists who are now able to treat many conditions during the temporary closure of Port Perry Hospital.”

Medical Associates of Port Perry extended its urgent care and x-ray hours after the temporary closure of Port Perry Hospital. In addition to longer hours, the clinic will offer care for illnesses and conditions that might otherwise have been treated in the Emergency Department. Lakeridge Health released a video, outlining the new services offered by Port Perry Medical Associates.

“Examples of these extended services include stitches for treating lacerations (cuts), casting of some fractures, addressing eye concerns, and treating non-emergency conditions like mild asthma flares and croup,” said Stephen Gray, CEO of Medical Associates of Port Perry. “Our urgent care specialist physicians and nurses can treat many non-life-threatening conditions. Alongside our health care partners, Lakeridge Health and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, we are pleased to be part of this collaborative effort and look forward to continuing to serve the healthcare needs of our community,” said Gray.

It is important for anyone in crisis to call 9-1-1 immediately. The skilled EMS response team will determine what level of care is needed and ensure they get to the right place for treatment.

“We want to thank our partners, staff, physicians, volunteers and North Durham residents for their continued support and patience as we work to restore and reopen the hospital as soon as possible,” said Anderson.
