Lakeridge Health Update on Orchard Villa COVID-19 Outbreak

Posted on Friday April 24, 2020

On April 22, Lakeridge Health took a leadership role in managing the COVID-19 outbreak at Orchard Villa in support of its partners at Southbridge Care.

Lakeridge Health took leadership of the response at the request of Durham Region Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robert Kyle, under the Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Act.

The Lakeridge Health response is led by Leslie Motz, Vice President Patient Services, and Chief Nursing Executive. Leslie, and a team from Lakeridge Health, is working alongside management and staff from Southbridge Care to respond to the outbreak to support residents and the staff team.

Expert clinical, infection prevention and control and medical teams from Lakeridge Health are assessing the situation at the home and starting action plans to limit further infection transmission and enhance resident and staff safety. Physicians are coming onsite to support the care for a number of residents. In addition, Lakeridge Health has a number of additional Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Personal Support Workers, and Dietary professionals who are transitioning to work at the home today and through the weekend. Additional supports are being provided by the Canadian Forces.

Working with the onsite care team, patient experience officers have begun reaching out to family members who are the designated contacts for residents to share information about their state and the work Lakeridge Health is doing to support them. Lakeridge Health’s patient experience teams will be updating families frequently and further updates will be provided publicly as information is available.
