Durham Region – As Lakeridge Health prepares to welcome patients and families back to Port Perry Hospital on September 5, 2018, final enhancements to the building are underway to ensure excellent, quality care and treatment continues for those living in North Durham.

The building has undergone extensive restoration since a fire last August significantly damaged its mechanical and electrical systems. Today, a new video  highlights the final improvements including:

  • A revamped operating room;
  • A bright, spacious kitchen; and
  • Sophisticated twin generators, which are designed to maintain power throughout the hospital.

“We appreciate the patience and support from North Durham residents during this transition as we work to fully restore the hospital during its temporary closure. We are excited to welcome patients and families back to a brighter, more inviting Port Perry Hospital,” said Matthew Anderson, President, and CEO of Lakeridge Health.

Lakeridge Health will be hosting a reopening celebration, which will include a tour of the renovated kitchen, mechanical room, patient rooms and the Emergency Department. More details on reopening celebrations will be available soon.

During the month of August, all hospital systems will be tested, equipment will be re-certified and the entire building will undergo a sterilization process before the hospital reopens on September 5.
