Volunteering in a hospital setting is an exciting opportunity to join an exceptional group of individuals with a shared desire to contribute to health care of our community. Volunteers are an essential part of the Lakeridge Health team, helping to create a caring, collaborative, and compassionate environment across our hospitals, community sites, and long-term care home, Lakeridge Gardens.

In order for us to get to know you and for you to truly make an impact in your role, we ask for a minimum commitment of six months of volunteer involvement.

Please email us at volunteer@lh.ca with any questions or call 905-576-8711 extension 33310 to leave a message and we will get back to you as quickly as we can.

Fall 2022 Update

Have you ever visited a healthcare setting that you weren’t familiar with? How did you feel? What would have made a difference in your experience?

We continue to hear from community members how the presence of a volunteer providing a greeting, directions, a comfort item, or distraction makes all the difference. We also hear that such tasks and interactions provide a meaningful experience for volunteers because they know they are helping another person and supporting the excellent care team.

When creating the volunteer roles, Volunteer Resources works with a department team to review the volunteer role description and tasks. From here, the information is shared with past volunteers from that role and site for review and then new volunteers are invited to consider joining to help make a difference in the lives of residents, patients, their loved ones, and team members.

Currently, there are several volunteer roles at Lakeridge Health. While our current priorities include Emergency departments, lobbies, and Auxiliary-run retail areas, there are also several other exciting opportunities available.

For hospital volunteer opportunities at Ajax Pickering, Bowmanville, Oshawa, Port Perry, or Whitby Hospitals, please call 905-576-8711 extension 33310 for more information.

For opportunities at Lakeridge Gardens (Long Term Care facility in Ajax) please call 905-576-8711 extension 21387.

Please note that currently the high school student program remains on hold. Plus, as a safety measure, any active volunteer must provide proof they have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, plus one booster.
