Lakeridge Health Announces New Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief, Academic Affairs and Research

DURHAM REGION – Lakeridge Health is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Nadia Ismiil as the new Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief, Academic Affairs and Research, effective February 6, 2023.

Dr. Ismiil is an accomplished medical leader with close to a decade of leadership experience. She joined Lakeridge Health in 2019 as a Laboratory Medicine Physician and the Department Chief, Laboratory Medicine and Medical Director, Laboratory Medicine Program. She has extensive experience in research and education, and during her tenure at Lakeridge Health has led the transformation of Diagnostic Pathology into a subspecialized model and strengthened the Laboratory Medicine quality management system.

Prior to joining Lakeridge Health, Dr. Ismiil was the Chief and Division Head of Anatomic Pathology at Sunnybrook Hospital. During her time at Sunnybrook, she led the development of an innovative leadership development program, structured around a culture of respectful relationships and the provision of core and advanced medical leadership competencies for the interprofessional team.

Dr. Ismiil has been long involved in translational research, with more than thirty peer-reviewed publications. She has also spent years involved with medical education, working as the Site Director of the Residency Program of Pathology at Sunnybrook, as well as in the role of Remediation Coordinator, supporting and coordinating medical residents facing significant challenges in completing their program.

Dr. Ismiil has successfully completed a Master’s Certificate in Healthcare Management at the Schulich School of Business, York University, and went on to complete a Master’s in Management from McGill University’s International Master’s in Health Leadership Program.
