Variety on the Menu at Lakeridge Health Oshawa

Patients are now dining restaurant-style, choosing from a menu of healthy and delicious options, as Lakeridge Health rolls out new food services at its Oshawa site today.

“We’ve heard from patients they want more choices, and healthier choices,” says Kevin Empey, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health. “We’re answering that call with a new menu that offers a variety of fresh, nutritious meal options.”

Previously, all patients were served the same meal, depending on their dietary needs. Now patients can choose between dishes like pot roast with creamy mashed potatoes and vegetables, or Wild Pacific Salmon and steamed rice, broccoli and sweet corn. There are 16 hot entree options on the new menu, which has already launched at Lakeridge Health Port Perry, Whitby and Bowmanville.

In addition, Lakeridge Health Oshawa is halfway through a construction project in the retail food court that will bring a wider selection of tasty and healthy food options to staff and visitors. The project is scheduled for completion this spring.

“I think people will be pleasantly surprised by the amount of choice they now have over their food while they stay with us,” says Empey. “And I’ve tried it, the food tastes really good. I loved the roast pork loin.”

Fast Facts:

  • The new patient food service is called Steamplicity, because of the simplicity of the patented steam valve on every individually wrapped dish. The steam valve acts as a high-pressure steam cooker when each dish is microwaved.
  • In addition to new food services, like a made-to-order meal station, Lakeridge Health Oshawa’s revamped food court will feature more cashiers, and debit and credit payment options.
