Durham – Thirteen Lakeridge Health Radiologists have pledged $150,000 to help the hospital build for the future.

“It’s always incredible to receive a donation, and this one is particularly special because it’s from our own people,” says Kevin Empey, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health.

The donation will be shared between the hospital’s sites in Bowmanville, Oshawa and Port Perry according to patient volumes. It will help to fund new equipment and building improvements and expansions at those sites.

“We very much support Lakeridge Health’s plans to build for the future,” says Dr. Gus Dotsikas, Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Lakeridge Health. “We hope this donation prompts other members of the Lakeridge Health family to consider a gift of their own.”

Lakeridge Health has ambitious growth plans to meet the needs of Durham Region residents, including new technology and equipment, new laboratory and pharmacy space and senior-friendly hospital rooms. Over the next ten years, the population of Durham Region is expected to grow by about 120,000 people and the seniors’ population is expected to grow by over 60%.

“Our plan will make sure we have enough room for a growing and aging population, but we can’t do it alone,” says Empey. “Community support is essential and I’m so glad our own doctors have stepped up to lead the way.”

The donation will be shared in the following way:

  • $30,000 to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation to be used toward the purchase of a new CT scanner for Lakeridge Health’s Bowmanville site.
  • $15,000 to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation’s Your Hospital, Your Future campaign that will support senior-friendly renovations at Lakeridge Health’s Port Perry site.
  • $105,000 to the Lakeridge Health Foundation capital campaign which includes a new pharmacy, laboratory and diagnostic services at the Oshawa site.

“The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation is genuinely grateful for this tremendous investment made by our family of radiologists,” says Darlene Bastianelli, Executive Director of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. “Thank you for demonstrating a deep commitment to excellence in patient care and reinforcing the spirit of philanthropy.”

“It’s great to see these doctors giving back, and making sure that each site in each community benefits,” says Cindy Lister, Executive Director of the Port Perry Hospital Foundation. “I want to thank our amazing team of Radiologists for this generous gift.”

Bob Baker, CEO of the Lakeridge Health Foundation says the Radiologists are demonstrating important leadership. “These Radiologists are some amazing people who have stepped up to the plate for this community. We know this is the just the beginning as this community comes together to support the best of the best for Durham Region health care.”
