Lakeridge Health is moving forward with senior-friendly renovations to its Port Perry site and is seeking financial support from the Region of Durham toward the project.

“These renovations to our Port Perry site will allow folks staying with us to be more comfortable, improving the quality of their care and experience,” says Kevin Empey, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health.

The project includes senior-friendly renovations like larger washrooms in patient rooms with wider doors to allow for someone using a walker to pass through.

The project will also:

  • Increase the number of private rooms available
  • Upgrade 4 rooms to palliative care standards
  • Update the medical gas system to meet current standards
  • Increase space for the common area for patients and families to visit

The overall cost of the project is expected to be $2.5 million. Today’s request to the Region of Durham is for $187,500 or 7.5% of the total cost. The remainder of the funds are expected to come from donations to Lakeridge Health’s Port Perry Hospital Foundation and the Township of Scugog.

“We have projects planned for each of our sites, and the Port Perry site is the first up,” says Empey. “We have a tremendous team in Port Perry and we need these upgrades to our physical building so we can deliver the best care possible.”

Other recent investments at the Port Perry site include a new ultrasound machine, solar panels installed on the roof, efficient lighting upgrades, and new heating and cooling units.
