New campaign launches for hospital staff to give the NOD

Durham - - Lakeridge Health has launched a new campaign that asks for all staff and doctors to give the NOD to people they are caring for.

“When someone on our team enters your room here we want them to tell you their name, their occupation and what they’re going to do to help,” says Lisa Shiozaki, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Executive at Lakeridge Health. “It’s something really simple that can go a long way.”

The NOD campaign, as demonstrated in this video, is part of a Patient Driven Care initiative at Lakeridge Health that is aimed at improving the experience of people relying on the hospital organization for care.

“We want people to be involved in their own health care, and they can only do that when they feel respected and understand what their options are and what is happening,” says Shiozaki. “Sometimes we’re so caught up in the routine of treatment we can forget the person in that bed is anxious. And it’s hard for people to keep track of everyone coming in and out of their room doing various things. So we’re saying let’s take a moment to introduce ourselves, every time.”

Lakeridge Health regularly surveys people on their experiences with the hospital. It has found 95% of people say they were treated with dignity and respect by staff and doctors. Shiozaki says that is a great result, but aims for even higher.

“The results so far are great, but we’re not aiming for great, we’re aiming for excellence – every moment, every day. This campaign is about pushing that number even higher so that every single person who comes to Lakeridge Health feels they had the best experience possible,” says Shiozaki.
