Course Overview and Objectives

The course is designed to give students the opportunity to practice and demonstrate proficiency in the following skills used in resuscitation:

  • Systematic Approach
  • Intravenous (IV)/intraosseous (IO) access (information only)
  • High-quality BLS
  • Use of Medications
  • Airway Management
  • Cardioversion
  • Rhythm Recognition
  • Transcutaneous Pacing
  • Defibrillation
  • Team Dynamics

Students taking an ACLS course will learn how to

  • Provide effective basic cardiac life support, including optimal chest compressions and use of automated defibrillators;
  • Choose appropriate ACLS algorithms to manage patients with no pulse or those with unstable/stable bradycardia and unstable/stable tachycardia;
  • Maintain a patent airway using basic and advanced techniques and equipment;
  • Operate manual defibrillator/pacing devices in a safe manner;
  • Act effectively as a resuscitation team member and leader.

Full Certification

This course is designed for first-time participants and those who have taken their last course more than two years ago. This course will introduce participants to basic concepts and help them progress to the management of more complicated resuscitation scenarios.

This course is designed for participants who have taken ACLS within the last two years and who want a refresher of their knowledge and skills. This course provides updates on new guideline modifications and evidence-based changes to resuscitation practice. Most of the day will be spent in high-fidelity simulation resuscitation scenarios designed to help participants feel confident in their ability to apply ACLS algorithms and practices.
