First-of-its-kind event promotes care closer to home
Durham Region – On Saturday, primary care physicians in West Durham came together with Lakeridge Health physicians in a first-of-its-kind event designed to find ways to deliver improved access to excellent health care closer to home.
More than 75 West Durham primary care and Ajax Pickering Hospital physicians attended the event to build and strengthen partnerships, engage in best practice delivery of care and develop a shared care network. The group’s aim: To form a collaborative partnership that will result in quicker access to much-needed health care services for the residents of the Ajax and Pickering communities.
Held at Lakeridge Auto Gallery, the Innovative Surgical Care Close to Home event featured presentations that highlighted surgical specialty services, including orthopaedic surgery and anesthesia and pre and post-surgery care available at Ajax Pickering Hospital.
“We want the people of West Durham to have access to much-needed health care services in their community,” said Matthew Anderson, Lakeridge Health President and CEO. “Pickering and Ajax are among the fastest growing areas in Durham Region. It is important to foster and strengthen relationships with primary care physicians to improve access to care and to extend services closer to home.”
“This day was about improving primary health care in our community and we look forward to reconnecting primary care and specialty care with Ajax Pickering Hospital,” said Dr. Jean-Placide Rubabaza, Gynecologic Surgery Lead at Ajax Pickering Hospital. “Through this collaborative partnership, it is important that we build a strong, well-connected Lakeridge Health Team to deliver the best care close to home.”
