Cancer Care Ontario provides three population based cancer screening programs:

Most recently, the Central East Regional Cancer Program was one of the three regional cancer programs in Ontario chosen to host the Lung Cancer Screening Pilot for People at High Risk which takes pace at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa.

Important quality benefits of cancer screening programs are:

  • Invitations to individuals to participate in screening at age of eligibility
  • Reminders for individuals to be screened when they are due for their next screening test
  • Tracking participants throughout screening and diagnostic processes
  • Generate result letters to patients and health care providers
  • Programs are continually evaluated for program quality and performance

Central East Cancer Screening Participation Rates

  • Breast - 61%
  • Cervical - 65%
  • Colorectal - 60%
