Complications of Venous Access

Treatment of infection

  • Antibiotics
  • Medicine to dissolve blood clots
  • Drain abscess
  • Removal of the device.
  • This is seldom needed but can be done if:
    • Infection fails to improve after 48-72 hours of treatment
    • Infection by pseudomonas/candida
    • Re-infection by an organism after appropriate antibiotic treatment
