Lakeridge Health Appoints New Chief of Surgical Services
Dr. Kellie Leitch Brings Academic Success to the Surgical Team
(Durham) Kevin Empey, Lakeridge Health President and CEO is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kellie Leitch to the network wide position of Department Chief – Surgical Services. Dr. Leitch will be performing surgery at both Lakeridge Health and the Hospital for Sick Children.
“Dr. Leitch brings with her the right experience, leadership and skills to Lakeridge Health as we continue our focus on access, quality of care, and improving the patient experience”, said Kevin Empey. “She will be a great addition to the Lakeridge Health physician leadership team and to our surgical services.”
Dr. Leitch earned her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1994, an MBA from Dalhousie University in 1998 and completed the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program in 2001 at the University of Toronto. She became a Fellow of Clinical Paediatric Orthopaedics at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles/University of Southern California in 2002.
Most recently Dr. Leitch served as Chair of Paediatric Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario/Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.
“Lakeridge Health was very fortunate to recruit a surgeon with Dr. Leitch’s skills and experience”, said Dr. Mark Taylor, Vice-President of Medical and Academic Affairs, “Her experience leading teams at large teaching hospitals will be very important as we work towards further expanding LHEARN (Lakeridge Health Education and Research Network)”.
“I have just started at Lakeridge Health and have already been significantly impressed by our hospital network’s dedicated and caring staff and physicians,” said Dr. Leitch. “I look forward to contributing to our hospital’s successes and improving patient care across the network.”
As a volunteer, Dr. Leitch is a Director on the GTA YMCA, which includes Oshawa's YMCA. She was also selected as one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 for her work in both medicine and business.
