Senior Leaders To Call Hospital Sites “Home”
Additional Nurses named to Senior Management Team
9 additional, senior positions permanently eliminated saving an additional $500,000 per year
(Oshawa) Today, Kevin Empey, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health, announced new senior management at Lakeridge Health, as well as the assignment of vice-presidents to Lakeridge Health’s hospital sites – strengthening ties between Lakeridge Health’s senior management team and the communities served by the hospital network.
Dr. Mark Taylor, Vice-President of Medical & Academic Affairs, with additional responsibility for the education programs including the Rural Health Training Institute at Port Perry, will be located at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville.
The two new Vice President positions announced on February 11, 2009 will be filled as follows:
Carol Anderson, currently the Director of the PASS Program at Lakeridge Health and resident of Port Perry, has been appointed Vice-President of Patient Care and will call Lakeridge Health Whitby and Port Perry home.
In addition, Lisa Shiozaki will join LH on March 2, 2009. Lisa will lead operations at Lakeridge Health Oshawa and joins the network as Vice-President of Patient Care.
“There is no better way to understand the challenges and opportunities at our hospital sites than to be there everyday, walking our units and support areas, interacting directly with our staff, physicians, volunteers and patients,” said Kevin Empey. “Bringing this bedside perspective to our Senior Management Team will enrich and strengthen our decision-making – sharpening our strong focus on quality, sustainable care,” he added.
Carol Anderson is a Registered Nurse with a Masters in Nursing from the University of Toronto. She has held many positions in nursing throughout her 25 year career in health care and has been with Lakeridge Health since 1997 – most recently as Site Leader of LH Whitby and Corporate Director of Post-Acute Specialty Services (PASS). This program has received provincial and national recognition for its innovative approaches in hospital and community care of the elderly. “I am looking forward to this new challenge and am proud to be continuing my work at LH Whitby and Port Perry in this expanded role.”
Lisa Shiozaki is a Registered Nurse with experience in large community and rural locations. She is currently the Chief Operating Officer and Program Leader of the Milton Hospital site of Halton Healthcare. “I am very excited to be joining one of the largest community hospitals in the country. The professionals at Lakeridge Health are well regarded in Ontario’s hospital system and I am proud to call it my new home.”
These and last week’s appointments increase nursing representation on the Senior Management Team threefold.
The new structure announced today will reduce the number of Directors in Lakeridge Health. Nine Director leadership positions are being eliminated. Some of these positions are being reclassified and some Directors will be moved to vacant positions, resulting in savings of approximately $500,000 per year – in addition to the $250,000 in administrative savings announced last week. “Saying goodbye to excellent and dedicated professionals will always be my most difficult and challenging responsibility. The Lakeridge Health family thanks them for their service and wishes them the best in their future challenges,” said Mr. Empey.
The hospital network’s deficit in 2008-09 was budgeted to be $10.8 million and as much as double this amount the following year if action is not taken. The hospital will also be making further decisions and announcements on additional administrative savings in the coming weeks.
